May 2017 Indie Book Connect Review

Ugh, I'm getting behind again. I know, I know, but June is a crazy month for me. There are a ridiculous amount of birthdays, my 30th birthday, and my wedding anniversary. In other words, there's a lot going on! But never fear, I'm slowly catching up on things and I'm still working on that mission to test every single book box for you Dolls. That brings us to this review - Indie Book Connect!

Indie Book Connect, who very kindly sent me this box for review, is a monthly book subscription service focusing on "independent authors and all of the books that you have been missing out on. The cost is $20 per month and you can expect to receive two new fiction books from two separate authors.

Also included in my package were this adorable bookmark, a card from Indie Book Connect and the link to join their book club on Goodreads.

The Unfinished by Jonathan Myers ---Not my typical book fare but I'll give it a shot! Here's the Amazon synopsis:

"This was not his forte. Dean is used to being invisible using poisons and chemicals, not one-on-one contact with people. Dean just hopes he can pull this off to get close to her.
As the sun of the Siberian planes rises, Dean has escaped from the clutches of the USSR. After thirty years of a new life he made for himself in the New Mexican Planes, Dean is thrown back into the life of espionage and finds the lines of loyalty and betrayal get crossed.
His only goal is to set the unfinished business at hand---by any means necessary, even if it means that Dean has to use his specialty craft of being the chemist. As Dean travels across continents to finish things and to put things straight, he finds himself in unfamiliar territory. He then discovers a whole new meaning to family."

Rise by Luis Almonte --- Ok, this one sounds awesome and I can't wait to crack it open! Here's the Amazon synopsis:

"Fifteen-year-old high school sophomore Alexia Wick is an ordinary girl, with extraordinary abilities. She attends the prestigious South Haven Academy for the Gifted and Talented, but unknown to the other students, she is an Alerium witch. Alexia has the power to conjure up wind, fire, and water. Although magic can be beautiful and spellbinding, it can also be deadly. The daughter of a High Priest and Priestess, Alexia must learn to navigate the pressures of high school, all while preparing for one of the biggest competitions of her life- the Annual Trials.

Skill, stamina, and loyalty will all be tested in Rise, the first installment of the Trifecta Series. In this debut YA contemporary fantasy novel, magic gets real as Alexia trains for the Annual Trials, which pits teen against teen, by focusing on her craft and pushing her magic and spell casting abilities to their absolute limit. When the handsome and confident Kaleb moves into town, he offers Alexia a welcome distraction from the Trials, but a dark secret could soon tear them apart.

In the trials arena friendships will be tested, fears will be faced head-on, and powerful spells will be unleashed. When Alexia is confronted with the ultimate game of chance, and is torn between her first real love and the allegiance that binds her to her coven, will she buckle under the weight of the pressure ... or will she rise to the challenge? "

I really liked this box! Obviously I'm a fan of anything that is related to books, but I love it even more when they are Indie books. I may never have picked these up were it not for Indie Book Connect!
